Design of Play (IMS212) is a 3 credit hour introduction to game design course. The first part of the course discusses what it means to be a game designer, the elements of game design, engaging players, mind of the player, player motivation, paper prototyping, documenting the design process, interactive narrative, and game balancing. The second part of the course is focused around a game design project, guest lectures, and a couple of extremely cool game design exercises. The course is inspired by and makes use of the following books, games and methods:
