As it became more difficult to play Netrunner in person, I wanted to update the Netrunner client that I play on my commutes to work. Netrunner: Solo Mode transforms the niche card game into a polished single-player experience. It is built on the foundation of the Chiriboga engine, and it extends the bare-bones engine into a fully-featured solo experience with multiple game modes, an achievement system, customization features, better on-boarding and a unique rogue-lite mode.

The latter wasn’t part of the original plan, but as my latest game project turned into a rogue-lite, I wanted to get more experience with creating one. In Gauntlet Mode, players face sequentially stronger AI opponents with a limited card pool, earn credits between matches, unlock powerful perks, and progressively build their deck through a run. This mode transforms individual matches into a larger campaign experience with meaningful progression and difficult choices.

I also redid the interface and now it embraces the game's dystopian themes through CRT-style effects and green-on-black terminal aesthetics. It also features over 40 preconstructed decks for both Corp and Runner sides that provide accessible entry points for new players while teaching different strategic approaches.

The game is fully responsive for mobile devices. I fixed a number of engine issues and optimizes its loading times. Finally, I implemented a little under 200 new cards, each with their own complex interactions and timing windows, and the game received an overwhelmingly positive response from the Netrunner community.
